Walkaways
Took Ginny Grace out today. This image reminded me of the beautiful and sad "Walkaway"
She did of course come back, after she fell in the mud and then on the ice. But for a sec she looked so bold and in control. And I was so happy.

I love seeing her explore, I love seeing her innocence, I love when something is discovered (like a pine cone) as if it is the most valuable treasure. Most of all I love that she calls me 'Dada'
I gotta rush away...she said I've been to Boston before and anyway, this sudden feeling doesn't make the rain...fall There's no big difference these days Just the same old walkaway Someday, I'm gonna stay... But not today
She did of course come back, after she fell in the mud and then on the ice. But for a sec she looked so bold and in control. And I was so happy.

Walking with a child is one of the great joys in life. I took GBabyZ for a walk twice yesterday. We have some of our best discussions while we walk. He seems to have a thing for rocks and water and wind.
"Rock! Rock!"
He gave me some little rocks as if he felt they were the most precious item on the planet. Then we came upon a storm sewer and looked into it for several minutes, listening to the sounds of trickling melt-off. It was momentarily spell-binding for each of us, I tell you. Eventually we tired of the storm sewer sounds and had a long, philosophical discussion of wind.
"Windy! Windy!" he exclaimed.
"Yes, it is a windy day today," I replied.
And then the wind took a breather, so we did, too. We went into the house and GBabyZ said, "Turtle? Feed him? Feed him?" So I let him feed my turtle, which led to feeding the fish, which led to eating some grapes, which led to a scientific yet artful artful redistribution of cat food. Everywhere I look this morning, there are little piles of cat food: three kibbles on a living room coaster; five bits under a dining room chair; two kibbles in the dog's otherwise empty water bowl.
I believe GBabyZ is secretly governing the unfolding of the universe through strategic cat food placement. I dare not clean up his hard, thoughtful work. It could lead to that bad vibration we know as calamity. I need that on my hands like I need another hole in my head.
GG is clearly advanced for her age, already zeroing in on the power of the pine cone. I can't wait for GBabyZ to reach the pine cone stage!
It is fun to watch your children discover new things, and to answer the questions they ask about their discoveries. I love the time spent walking with my children, when it's just me and them. We have the best conversations when we're walking.
She's absolutely adorable by the way...
Ron, these shots are fantastic.
And, "Walkaway" is one of my favorite songs.
Those are the cutest fricking pigtails I have ever seen. What a darling. Really, she's just danged cute! :)
What an angel.
Those ARE some enviable pigtails!
